Wedding trends come and go and are ever-changing. Some of these trends are proof that weddings have become more personalized that ever before. Think vintage meets modern, with trends from the past blending with modern twists, making things fit your personalities perfectly. Here are some of the top trends that we are seeing this year:
Round Ceremonies and Arches
So long to the conventional aisle seating. Round seating, spiral seating, amphitheater style… it’s on the rise. We love the way these intimate setups create such a different atmosphere. Long gone are the traditional trellises. Round, octagonal, and even gravity-defying arches are making an impact.
Less Cake, More Pie
Translucent cakes are in. Instead of bare tiers, translucent cakes have a thin veil of icing with just a bit of the cake showing through. Jazz it up with caramel drizzle or chocolate ganache. Couples still want the tradition of cutting the cake, but they’re accessorizing it with fun, unique treats for dessert. The top choice right now is an old fashioned favorite—pie!
Creative Food and Drink Stations
They are having a moment. Think outside the box and go beyond dessert. Couples are opting for coffee stands with baristas, craft beer from local breweries, and even barbecue sauce stations.
Custom Illustrations
My personal favorite trend is custom illustrations. A live artist capturing the ceremony or part of the reception is such a unique gift for the couple. You might also consider a rendering of the bride and groom for the guestbook, save-the-dates, or thank you cards.
Balloon Walls
According to Mindy Weiss, balloon walls are the new flower walls. “Balloons are no longer just for New Year’s Eve—they make wonderful, celebratory décor for any event, including weddings,” she explains. That’s right… balloons are back!
Customized Wedding Signs and Calligraphy
Another way to personalize your special day is by using chalkboards as directional signs, mirrors with bar menus in calligraphy for the cocktail hour, and large escort charts to add to the décor. Finish them off with eucalyptus or lemon leaf garlands, or a few vines of florals.
Create Your Own Welcome Gift
Couples can easily send out wedding information digitally, removing the need for welcome gifts and itineraries delivered to the guests’ rooms. Many couples are opting for a Create Your Own station at the welcome party or rehearsal dinner. With a variety of items to choose from, your guests will take exactly what they want to kick off the festivities.
Metallics and Geometrics
Reflective metallics add such depth to any color palette. The different shapes, sizes, and colors can be seen throughout ceremonies and receptions in the archways, centerpieces, and furniture. This is the perfect example of adding a modern twist.
